A gold ornament sits on the ground at Our Lady's feet, beside a king's helmet, and the Christ Child sits on her lap in a white cloth. The Prado describes the gift: the Sacrifice of Isaac, worked in gold and pearl, resting on toads. The museum reads the triptych, painted by Hieronymus Bosch about 1494, as a statement of the universality of Redemption, and the gifts carry it, decorated with Old Testament scenes that the Biblia pauperum set beside the Adoration; on the second king's metal cloak the Queen of Sheba comes before Solomon. In the stable doorway stands a figure in a cloak that barely covers him, whom the Prado names the Antichrist. Above, in the hayloft, an owl gazes at a dead mouse, and the museum finds Eucharistic wheat stored in the upper part of the hut. Under the broken thatch the wheat is already laid by.
The panels hang in a row at one image height; the hung images measure about 24.0 in across, before any gap between frames.
