What is dpi?
Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

All editionsAbout this painting
The sheep have not noticed. They lie in the grass with their legs folded under them while the girl on her knees among them lifts both hands toward a blaze of gold at the edge of the wood. Inside it stands Saint Michael in gilded armour, pointing with his sword the way she must go, and two women in gowns worked with gold at his sides, Catherine and Margaret, the whole vision laid in gold leaf on the canvas. A basket of wool has tipped over at her knee. Louis Maurice Boutet de Monvel painted it in about 1907 to 1909 as the first of a series on Joan of Arc commissioned by the American senator William A. Clark, and the National Gallery of Art records it as oil and gold leaf, bequeathed to the Corcoran Gallery in 1926 and acquired in 2015. She told her judges the voice first came to her at about thirteen, in her father's garden, at noon. Here it is the whole sky. The sheep go on chewing.
