Our Lady stands on a thin crescent moon with her hands joined, a ring of stars over her head and the Holy Spirit as a white dove above that. The Museo de Bellas Artes de Granada reads everything round her as a title from the litany: chosen as the sun, fair as the moon, spotless mirror, morning star, gate of heaven, lily among thorns. Her tunic, the museum says, is hyacinth, the color of purity, her mantle the sky blue of eternity. Fray Juan Sánchez Cotán, at the Charterhouse of Granada from 1603, painted her, the museum says, as a girl of twelve or thirteen, at prayer. The moon holds her without a mark.
