The light falls from the right and every shadow runs left — one sun for the whole wall, so the miracle stands in the chapel's own daylight.
The architecture's lines converge on Christ's head; Gabriella Stabile Di Blasi reads the optics as aimed at him. At the centre the demand: a tax collector, short tunic, no halo, back turned. Christ instructs; Peter points to the water, repeating Christ's gesture.
Peter is in all three places: put out at the centre, kneeling over the fish far left, paying far right. The coin covers two men: "for me and thee."
