Christ steps barefoot onto the fallen door and takes an old man by the hand. Behind Him the souls kneel naked with their hands joined, and the demons look on from the fire. Bartolomé Bermejo brought the north's oil into Aragon, and the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya names his realism one without idealisations. The museum makes this one of four compartments of a predella on Christ the Redeemer, from a documented altarpiece for Santo Domingo de Silos at Daroca; Cèsar Favà and Mireia Mestre argue the four hung two by two, flanking a tabernacle, about 1474 to 1479. The door lies flat, and an old man kneels on it.
