About this painting
The picture the world files under Dieric Bouts is catalogued by its own museum as nobody in particular. The Städel's artist line reads Dutch Master around 1475; the panel is unsigned, it is not on display, and it came in as a gift from Josephine and Anton Brentano in 1895. What the museum does state precisely is the moment: Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, the linen, the myrrh, the new tomb in a garden.
