Three crosses stand on one green hill, and the Dreux Budé Master gathers a whole Good Friday under them. At the left, the J. Paul Getty Museum describes, Christ carries His cross and Veronica hands Him her veil; at the center His broken body hangs between the two thieves. Our Lady swoons, and Saint John and Mary Magdalene reach to hold her while soldiers throw dice for His robes. The Getty notes this was once the center of a portable, three-part altarpiece devoted to the Passion. At top right a monster devours souls. Below it Christ has already gone down into Limbo for Adam and Eve.
