The Medici ride with the Magi. The palace's own account names the living men walking in the holy procession: Cosimo and Piero de' Medici, the young Lorenzo and Giuliano, Gian Galeazzo Sforza, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, and Pope Pius II. The three kings are colour-coded across three walls — Caspar in white to the east, Balthazar in green to the south, Melchior in red to the west. Gozzoli began in 1459. Matthew never says there were three, and never names them.
