The Child feeds with His eyes nearly shut, one hand on His Mother's breast. Our Lady looks down at Him under thin brows. The One who feeds the world is being fed. Both halos are gold filigree against the dark. The name on the label changed in the laboratory: Barbara Berrie and Michael Swicklik, publishing in 2009, reported a brown ground, an oil medium and the pigments orpiment and Naples yellow, habits of Correggio. Paris in 2008 and Rome in 2016 hung it as Correggio; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, says circle of Andrea Mantegna, possibly Correggio. The small hand stays where it is.
