About this painting

Nearly three metres of Annunciation, painted in 1623 at the end of Orazio's Genoese years. At that height Gabriel does not arrive beside the Virgin so much as above the person standing in front of her, and the whole encounter has to be looked up into. Turin's museum publishes almost nothing about it — no record, no essay, one mention by name. The canvas has to speak for itself, and at this scale it can.
