The net is full at the hour it is to be left. Christ stands barefoot on rock and holds out His hand; Peter and Andrew stand in a small boat on green water, the mesh heavy beneath them, and Peter lifts a hand. The National Gallery of Art's catalogue notes that Duccio joined two Gospel tellings: Matthew's call of two brothers casting a net and, from Luke alone, the full catch and Peter's gesture of remonstrance. The scene once sat on the Maestà's rear predella, on the side turned toward the apse. Christ says: Come ye after me, and I will make you to be fishers of men.
